The annual St Nazaire Raid commemoration is to be moved from its current date of March 29 to a new date of April 18 to allow more people to attend once lockdown rules are eased on April 12. At a recent meeting of Falmouth Town Council, mayor Steve Eva told councillors that if the event was moved they could have 15 people instead of six and April 18 was the date that they were going for at 11am. Town clerk Mark Williams said whatever the council did it would be low-key. Last year the the service was cancelled because of coronavirus restrictions. The ceremony on Prince of Wales Pier commemorates the 611 commandos and sailors who took part in Operation Chariot during World War Two, 169 were killed and 200, mostly wounded, were taken prisoner.
