Five puppies were rescued from a structure fire on East Third Street Tuesday afternoon. According to a Wednesday press release, a dozen firefighters from all three Galesburg fire stations responded to the house fire at around 2:07. The property sits next to the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site. Upon arrival, smoke was showing from the west side of the single-story home and Battalion Chief Derek Perry established command, with the Central Station crew making entry into the home and to the basement to extinguish the flames.
