Kennebunkport hotelier invests $20M in historic Southwest Harbor hotel

By the time renovations are completed on a historic Southwest Harbor hotel that changed hands last September, total investment in the property, including the purchase price, is expected to be $20 million. Claremont Hospitality LLC, led by Kennebunkport hotelier Tim Harrington, bought the Claremont Hotel, at 22 Claremont Road, from the Claremont Inc. The plan is to have the hotel open for Memorial Day weekend, he said.  The extensive renovation includes replacement of bathrooms, windows, elevators, heating and ventilation systems, and paint; installation of air conditioning, a swimming pool, two restaurants and a spa; and seven acres of new landscaping. Maine s 9 p.m. business curfew has been in place since before Thanksgiving, when Gov. Janet Mills implemented it as a way to prevent the new coronavirus from spreading over the holidays. “The early closing time was aimed at reducing the higher rate of COVID-19 transmission,” she said Thursday, adding that “Maine is beginning to round that corner on that post-holiday surge.” As of Thursday, the state’s seven-day PCR positivity rate was 3.64%.

Furman Block officially opens in West Bayside

By Staff The 51-apartment Furman Block will officially open today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that celebrates another completed project on former Portland Public Works Department property. Developed by Szanton Co., the seven-story building has 51 mixed-income apartments for those age 55 and above, with street-level commercial space. Developer Ross Furman owns and manages the commercial space, and Szanton s property management arm, Saco Falls Management, manages the apartments. No tenant has yet been announced for Furman Block’s commercial space. The building was designed by Archetype Architects and was built by Hebert Construction on the site of a former gravel lot used as parking for the city s public works vehicles. It s one of six former public works parcels sold to five local developers, who have built, or are building, a mix of residential and retail in the neighborhood.
