Former state representative Steve Carter dies at 77

BATON ROUGE, La. â Steve Carter, 77, the three-term state representative who ran for East Baton Rouge Mayor-President last year, has died of complications from the coronavirus, a representative for his family told our media partners at The Advocate.
âIt is with very heavy hearts we report that Steve has lost his battle with Covid-19 tonight, surrounded by his family,â said Charlotte Melder in a statement.
Melder said Carter passed away around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Carter was hospitalized with the virus earlier this month
Carter, a Republican, was elected to House District 61 three consecutive times, starting in 2007. He was chairman of the House Education Committee from 2012 through 2015.
DOC arrests employee at LA State Penitentiary on drug charges

BATON ROUGE, La. â The Louisiana Department of Corrections announced Friday that an internal investigation has resulted in the arrest of an employee of the Louisiana State Penitentiary.
According to a release from DOC, a Louisiana State Penitentiary Corrections Officer intercepted an attempt to smuggle contraband by a corrections cadet at the prison Friday.

, 22, of 38 East Ave, Highway 24 West, Woodville, Mississippi on numerous drug charges.
The release states that the corrections officer noticed the cadet s suspicious demeanor as she drove a state vehicle into the Main Prison sally port.
