Israel’s National Infrastructures Committee has approved an outline plan to put Haifa’s existing railway lines underground at an estimated cost of NIS 13 billion.
The plan was backed by several mayors of cities in which the marinas were planned to be built, but the National Planning and Building Council accepted the objections of several environmental groups
The Planning Administration spokesperson said the five marinas were rejected because of environmental damage and the need to keep beaches accessible to the public.
