Ludhiana: The district recorded its highest single-day Covid-19 case count of 995 on Friday. A day before, 880 residents the second highest tally were confirmed to have contracted the disease.
As per the health department bulletin, 13 Covid deaths were reported on the day. Of them, eight were residents of Ludhiana and one each of Barnala, Jalandhar, Faridkot, Delhi and Jharkhand.
The district casualties included a 56-year-old diabetic man of Mohan Singh Nagar, a 66-year-old diabetic man of Basti Jodhewal, a 78-year-old diabetic woman of Madhuvan Enclave, a 61-year-old man of Basant Avenue, Dugri, with hypertension, a 51-year-old man of Mundiyan Kalan, a 62-year-old man of Ludhiana with hypertension and coronary artery disease, a 65-year-old woman of Khanna with hypertension, and a 36-year-old diabetic man of Hambhara village.
Ludhiana: Ten residents of Ludhiana died of Covid-19 and 758 tested positive on Monday.
According to the health department bulletin, a patient each of Amritsar, Kapurthala, Moga and Bathinda, too, succumbed to the disease at the city hospitals.
The district casualties included a 62-year-old man of Mundiyan Kalan, a 57-year-old woman of Lahul village, a 59-year-old man of Deharka village, a 30-year-old man of Shimlapuri, a 63-year-old man of Basti Jodhewal, a 42-year-old man of Sherpur, a 45-year-old man of Dhandari Kalan, a 38-year-old man of Giaspura, a 60-year-old man of Lassara village, and a woman, 60, of Dholewal.
Civil surgeon Dr Sukhjivan Kakkar said the district’s fatality figure has increased to 1,253 and that of outsiders to 647.

Once again Ludhiana district broke the previous records today and the district saw 835 new cases of Covid. The district had reported 598 positive cases yesterday. This is the highest spike since the outbreak of Covid in March 2020
It was in September last year that highest 7,736 cases were reported in a month, but in April 7,768 cases were recorded in 17 days. The active cases in the district today rose to 4,277.
Today six persons lost their lives due to the virus. Three men and three women, belonging to Maharana Partap Nagar, Inderpuri, Tilak Nagar, Khanna, Dugri and Basti Jodhewal, succumbed to the virus. Those who tested positive today include three health workers.
The day also saw six Ludhianvis and three patients from outside the district succumbing to the disease.
The district casualties included an 80-year-old woman of Maharana Pratap Nagar, who had diabetes and hypertension; a 75-year-old man of Inderpuri; a 74-year-old woman of Tilak Nagar; an 85-year-old man of Khanna; a 36-year-old diabetic man of Dugri, and a 75-year-old woman of Basti Jodhewal with hypertension and coronary artery disease.
Civil surgeon Dr Sukhjivan Kakkar said the district toll tally has increased to 1,232 and that of outsiders to 636.
To date, 8,71,786 persons have been tested.
Of the 598 new cases, 276 were from flu corner, 124 from OPD, 53 contacts of positive patients, 137 through tracing process, one healthcare worker, an inter-state traveller, four severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) cases and one pre-operative case. As many as 72 patients from outside Ludhiana, too, tested positive here.
