Zoning board to consider repeal for short term rental in Lafayette neighborhood

Zoning board to consider repeal for short term rental in Lafayette neighborhood Airbnb and last updated 2021-04-05 21:24:56-04 LAFAYETTE, La. — The Lafayette Board of Zoning Adjustment will consider an appeal of a November 2020 decision that allowed a short term rental to operate on Poinsetta Street during its regular meeting on Thursday. According to the Thursday s meeting agenda, the board will consider a repeal of Development and Planning Department Director Mary Sliman’s Nov. 10, 2020 decision to grant a short term rental to house on Poinsetta Street in Lafayette, which is being brought by the neighbors and property owners in the area.

Local ruling could get rid of Airbnb, short-term rentals in Lafayette

Lafayette’s Board of Zoning Adjustment is set to decide next week whether local zoning rules permit short-term rentals, like Airbnb, to operate in residential neighborhoods.  The potentially fateful decision could impact some 300 Airbnb and other short-term rental listings in the city of Lafayette, based on data from AirDNA, a short-term rental market research company. The board’s ruling, planned for April 8, could firmly define for the first time whether those rentals can be operated in areas zoned for single-family residential use, which cover many of the city’s neighborhoods.  Instead, LCG s Development and Planning Department has used that ambiguity to greenlight Airbnbs and the like to operate in single family zones since they aren t expressly prohibited by the Lafayette Development Code.
