The Eastleigh Gurkha Nepalese Association (EGNA) has been providing the nearby foodbank with fresh vegetables and herbs grown at Highbridge Farm. Members have grown vegetables including potatoes, runner beans, pumpkins, tomatoes and coriander by cultivating land loaned to them by farmer, Henry Russell. During the pandemic several members have been forced to shield due to coronavirus, but they still wanted to give back to others in the community that have been struggling during the pandemic.

Winchester Round Table delivered 47 parcels this Christmas

STRUGGLING families in the area have received food and presents this Christmas thanks to Winchester Round Table. The organisation’s Christmas Parcels Campaign has made packages to help families of young carers, young people undertaking counselling, people using the Winchester Basics Bank, and older people in the Winchester district who are isolated and less likely to receive anything over the festive period. The city council provided information to volunteers, which has been used to create Christmas parcels packed with foodstuffs and toys. The parcels have been distributed to families in the Winchester district. The parcels are funded by the profits of the annual fireworks night in November, this year reimagined as Light Up Winchester.

Musselburgh Baptist Church s hampers of food for those in need at Christmas

THE Christmas Day lunch at Musselburgh Baptist Church has been cancelled this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Instead, ‘blessing boxes’ containing food are being offered to people in the Musselburgh area who are struggling this festive season, and the Basics Bank, which also offers food donations, will be open until Thursday (December 17). Pastor Graham Shearer said: “We are very sad to announce that we are unable to host our usual Christmas Day meal for the community this year. “We have loved opening our doors for the last number of years but Covid-19 has made it impossible this time around.
