The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State are bickering over Governor Simon Bako Lalong’s comment on possession of AK-47 rifles by herders and farmers in the country.
Lalong had while featuring on
Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily programme, said both herders and farmers carried AK-47 rifles to protect themselves.
But PDP in the state, through its spokesman, John Akans, at a press briefing on Tuesday, described Lalong’s statement as unfortunate, saying Plateau farmers did not bear guns.
Akans said: “Unfortunately, Plateau never got it this bad before. This is sad for this great land, we are losing our youths, women, and children as a result of bandits/herdsmen attacks, yet our governor is still singing praises on the graves of the victims. Plateau farmers do not carry AK-47.”
Sixty-year-old Mariya Abdallah was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure in 2018 and has been undergoing dialysis three times a week at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Teaching Hospital, Zaria.
Every week, the mother of three has to fork out almost N80,000 for treatment and for the last three years, she has been on a diet, she said.
“My older sister died from the same disease in 2014,” she said.
“I started experiencing symptoms of nausea, I lost my appetite and I lost a lot of weight.
“We went to a private hospital and I was given medication but I didn’t get better.
