of an airline ticket in july went up 20%. so this is peak season for travel. so people are still flying. but as you know, more people drive than do fly. yeah, they absolutely do. of course, you re going some place far away in a limited time, you have to fly. is this a business model now that airlines have adopted fee additions for every little thing? keep the basic airfare low and do it a la carte. you add about 25% to your ticket in these fees in taxes. that is a lot. you have to look at that base fare and see it broken down and that s where everybody is saying hey, you need to disclose this. don t keep it hidden. we need to be able to compare. how can people compare? well, there s nice handy little charts, for instance. a nice chart called the ultimate guide to airline fees along with airlinewatchdog.com. for instance, we were just talking about the unaccompanied minors. they had to pay depending on
pretty darn essential. but no one is saying that if you sell a car in texas, you must put air conditioning in the car. you can still save a couple hundred bucks and not get it. and that s what this is all about is consumers can decide whether they think our tradeoff of a very low entry fare and a fee for carry-on the bag is a good tradeoff and right now, customers are responding really positively to this. ok, so ben, just for people who have not been on your web site and checked out your prices, let s say you do have to pay for a carry-on of the 20 or 30 or 45 bucks, where does your starting base fare compare to other carriers who go up and down the eastern seaboard? well, in general, it s actually much lower. we ve done hundreds of price comparisons for the fall travel and when you join spirit s fare club which gets you the lowest fares and you get that low fare plus you pay for your checked bags and your carry-on bag, in most cases, the total price you ll pay is anywhere from 30%
