Spine road labelled absolutely insane with fears Thornaby will bear brunt of thousands of extra cars

A SPINE road lined up for a new Middlesbrough estate has been labelled “absolutely insane” with fears thousands of cars will be channelled into Thornaby.  Thornaby mayor Steve Walmsley has repeatedly sounded worries about congestion on major routes in the town – with pleas for a new junction on the A19 to ease traffic jams.  A new 30mph north to south road is still in the Stainsby country park vision west of the A19 – with car-owners living in up to 1,670 homes set to use the Mandale Interchange. Now Cllr Walmsley has urged Stockton and Middlesbrough Council leaders to “get their heads together” over worries Thornaby is being treated as a “patsy” and a “regional thoroughfare”.

Boy, 11, robbed by man in balaclava while riding his bike

Cleveland Police is appealing for information after the incident was reported in Ingleby Barwick on Monday. Police say the victim was cycling on Barwick Way when he was approached by a male, who pushed him off his bicycle and took his bag and blazer. The boy, who is 11, managed to get his bag back and the suspect made off from the scene.  It was reported to have happened at about 4.10pm. A police spokesperson said the suspect is described as a white male, aged in his 30s, and he was wearing dark green cargo style trousers, a black coat with a fur hood and a black balaclava.
