There’s an instant logistical problem to lunching with ABC Radio Sydney veteran James Valentine: he’s been unfamiliar with the concept for nearly 25 years, ever since he first started hosting the afternoon slot - 12.30pm to 3.30pm daily − on what was then called 2BL.

“We used to eat lunch, before digital stations,” Valentine, 59, recalls wistfully. “When the cricket was on, we wouldn’t be required − unless it started raining in Adelaide. But now we stay on a digital station, even when the cricket’s on. I haven’t had lunch for a very long time.”
