Ann Arbor dioxane cleanup advocates plan rally in Lansing to get Whitmer’s attention

ANN ARBOR, MI After four months with no word from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on whether she’ll support a federal Superfund cleanup of the Gelman dioxane plume in Ann Arbor, local advocates are getting ready to travel to Lansing.
They’re planning to rally on the lawn of the Michigan Capitol at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, urging Whitmer to issue a concurrence letter in support of having the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency consider placing the decades-old plume on the National Priorities List for a Superfund cleanup.

ANN ARBOR, MI An Ann Arbor company is among the recipients of a business award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Purafide LLC received $100,000 out of nearly $2.5 million going toward small businesses across the nation to “develop innovative technologies” supporting the EPA’s mission to protect human health, according to a news release.
Businesses in the Small Business Innovation Research program are receiving phase one awards of up to $100,000 for six months for “proof of concept” of their technology. Then they can submit a proposal for a second phase award of up to $400,000 to further develop their technology.
