Top Preston hotel unveils plans to double in size

Top Preston hotel unveils plans to double in size One of Preston s top hotels has unveiled plans to double in size in a bid to attract more weddings and corporate events. Monday, 17th May 2021, 12:30 pm The four-star Barton Manor (formerly Barton Grange) wants to build an extension, adding up to 50 new rooms, on the site of its former garden centre. The hotel currently has 51 rooms and the owners say that is limiting its ability to compete for bigger functions and conferences as our current (room) inventory does not support the market demand. Barton Grange, which was originally a local mill owner s country mansion and later the home of MP Levi Collinson, became a six-bed hotel in 1951 and grew to become one of the most prestigious venues in the area.

The best garden centres open across the UK

Garden centres are open; here, Telegraph Gardening shares their favourite spots nationwide  Credit: Betsie Van Der Meer Since March, Britons have had to adjust to the new normal of self-isolation. Cooped up indoors, it s no wonder that many households have turned to the shed, digging out dusty old mowers and secateurs to tend their gardens. It seemed a particularly cruel blow when garden centres nationwide were forced to close on March 23. At the time, there was widespread outrage; some gardening broadcasters, including Alan Titchmarsh and Gardeners World presenter Monty Don, took to social media to voice their disdain.  Thankfully, things are different this time round. According to the Government’s official guidance published on Monday 4 January, garden centres are to stay open: Essential retail such as food shops, supermarkets, pharmacies, garden centres, building merchants and suppliers of building products and off-licences.
