There weren’t going to be any midweek games this season, but an April rainout with Illinois left Indiana scrambling to coordinate a makeup.
IU finally got the game in on Tuesday it just didn’t get the result it wanted. Or, frankly, needed. A solo home run by Illinois’ Taylor Jackson in the top of the 10th inning sent the Hoosiers to a 3-2 loss at Bart Kaufman Field, marking the program’s fourth defeat in six games.

After three convincing finishes at Bart Kaufman Field, a weekend sweep of the Golden Gophers is exactly what the Hoosiers got. IU took the series with a 9-3 win in Game 1 of Friday’s doubleheader, a 7-1 victory in Game 2, and a no-doubt-about-it, 23-1 triumph in the finale.

Indiana is back at Bart Kaufman Field on Friday for a three-game set with Minnesota. Here’s what you need to know heading into the weekend.
Bierman finding his groove
There were a couple of reasons for that.
Tendinitis forced the sophomore right-hander to miss the entirety of IU’s fall ball period in late 2020. It wasn’t anything too serious, but the inflammation in his arm was enough to cause Bierman to fall behind his peers on the throwing schedule and make the early part of the spring more about catch-up, than preparation.
