A Deschutes County jury convicted Ian Cranston for killing Barry Washington after a dispute outside the Capitol Bar in downtown Bend bar in September of 2021. Specifically, Cranston was convicted of Manslaughter in the First Degree, Manslaughter in the Second Degree, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and one count of Assault in the First Degree. The jury acquitted Cranston of Murder in the Second Degree. On the night of September 19, 2021, Cranston shot and killed Barry Washington on a sidewalk in downtown Bend. Cranston was angry with Washington because Washington had complimented Cranston's girlfriend. Lead trial prosecutors for the State were Deputy District Attorneys Michael Swart and Brooks McClain. They were supported throughout this prosecution by their stellar colleagues in the District Attorney's Office. Sentencing is scheduled for November 28, 2022 at 2:30.
