Diehl
Shirley L. Diehl, 92, Duncansville, peacefully went with the Lord Sunday morning. She was born in Newry, daughter of the late Quentin and Grace (Weaver) Berkey. She married Fred T. Diehl on Oct. 5, 1944.
Surviving are her two sons, Barry (Linda) of Martinsburg and Jeff of Duncansville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Fred T. Diehl; and three siblings: Don, Denny, and an infant brother, Gary.
Shirley graduated from Penn State University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She accepted her first teaching position at Gaysport Elementary teaching second grade and taught for 16 years before retiring. She earned her master’s degree taking night courses twice a week while teaching full-time and taking care of her family.
