COVID-19 Simcoe Muskoka: All buses are back in services as Barrie Transit COVID-19 outbreak ends

  BARRIE, ONT. The COVID-19 outbreak at Barrie Transit that disrupted service on several routes has been declared over. The health unit declared the outbreak on April 15 after two confirmed cases among transit staff were found to be linked. Following that, at least seven more staff members tested positive for the virus. The workplace outbreak impacted bus routes and even resulted in the temporary cancellation of route 100. Riders were told to expect longer than usual wait times as multiple drivers went into isolation. In a release on Friday, the City of Barrie stated all buses were back up and running.

  BARRIE, ONT. Barrie Transit has temporary service interrupations on some routes after nine individuals tested positive for COVID-19. The City of Barrie said there would be no service on route 100 until further notice, while routes 1 and 6 would experience a temporary reduction in frequency on routes. The city said riders could expect longer wait times on these routes and suggested checking MyRide before leaving for the bus. Last week, the health unit declared an outbreak at Barrie Transit after two confirmed cases were found to be linked. Forsyth said there doesn t appear to be a connection between the rest of the cases.

  BARRIE, ONT. Three more employees of Barrie Transit have tested positive COVID-19, bringing the number of infected staff members to six. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit declared a workplace outbreak at Barrie Transit on Thursday, believing there could be a link between two cases. A spokesperson for the city of Barrie says the three latest cases have not been linked to the previous three, and they believe the risk of virus spread is low. Seventh COVID case at Barrie Transit has union pleading for driver vaccines

Another positive case at Barrie Transit has the union and the City of Barrie asking for their workers to get the vaccine as soon as possible.  There are now seven positive cases among Barrie Transit staff, according to their union, which is up from six reported on Sunday. Affected drivers are isolating at home. Cory Trew, president and business agent for the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1775 in Barrie, said on Monday there are upwards of 200 employees within Barrie Transit, including approximately 175 drivers and maintenance workers who are represented by the union.  While seven may not be a large number out of 200 workers, Trew still wants protection immediately for the people the union represent.

COVID-19 News: Workplace COVID-19 outbreak declared at Barrie Transit

  BARRIE, ONT. Barrie Transit has an active workplace outbreak declared by the Simcoe Muskoka health unit after a COVID-positive driver could be linked to another infected driver. In the past week, a total of three bus drivers tested positive for COVID-19. The city says no other cases have been reported, and the health unit believes the risk of spread is low based on the health practices and policies Barrie Transit has in place. There will not be any changes to bus routes as a result of the outbreak. The city maintains that all buses are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after service each day.
