A TEACHER has been selected to fight a vacant council seat. Veteran councillor Phil Stone is backing Barrie Hall, a teacher at Richard Huish College, to replace him on Somerset West and Taunton Council. Mr Hall, who works at Richard Huish College, is standing in the by-election in North Curry and Ruishton, which Mr Stone represented for 34 years until he recently stepped down. On being selected by local members yesterday (Monday), Mr Hall said: Phil Stone’s work for our villages is legendary. I am proud to have been in the team with Phil in the past and am honoured he has chosen to support me to become the candidate.
