A newly proposed date for the Springfield St. Patrick s Day parade is on the books, a spokeswoman for the city said.
Mayernick said a parade committee meeting is pending.
A post from the parade committee s Jan. 12 noted the March 13 parade was being postponed due to the continued unprecedented circumstances caused by COVID-19.
City spokeswoman Julia Frevert confirmed the Oct. 16 date from the Office of Public Works.
The 2020 parade was postponed after a nudge from Gov. JB Pritzker, who called Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder personally amid concerns about the spread of the virus in large crowds.
The downtown parade goes back to 1985 when William “Pinky” McHenry served as grand marshal. McHenry, who was instrumental in the revitalization of St. John’s Breadline and Friends of Brother James Court, was the owner and operator of W.F. McHenry Wholesale Liquors and The Barrel Head Restaurant.
