A North Carolina charter school teacher was killed Thursday in a shootout while trying to rob a Mexican drug cartel s stash house.
Barney Dale Harris, along with a team of people, is believed to have broken into a trailer at a mobile home park in Green Level, North Carolina, to steal drugs and money, investigators said in a news release.
Authorities responded to the incident around 12:52 a.m. after reports of gunshots heard in the area. When they arrived, they found Harris and another individual with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Alamance County Sheriff s Office.

Steven Alexander Stewart Jr., broke into a mobile home in Alamance County, which was being used by a member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel as stash house for illegal drugs.
When the owner of the mobile home,
Alonso Beltra Lara, returned he was ambushed by Harris and Stewart. They tied him up and shot him execution-style in the back of the head. He was still alive when police arrived and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officials said that Harris was found in a bedroom of the mobile home with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a vest, mask, and gloves.

GREEN LEVEL, N.C. (AP) A popular teacher in North Carolina has died in what authorities said was an “old Western shootout” with members of a Mexican drug cartel.
The Charlotte Observer reported Wednesday that Barney Dale Harris, 40, taught Spanish and was head coach of the boys’ varsity basketball and track teams at Union Academy Charter School in Monroe. He was found dead April 8 in an Alamance County mobile home that authorities called a drug “stash house.”
Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson said that officers found Harris wearing a face cover, gloves and a bulletproof vest. There were also 30 shell casings in and outside of the mobile home, and bullet holes in three other mobile homes, Johnson said.
