Henry Barnard School (HBS) one of Rhode Island’s most storied elementary schools is planning on merging with Providence Country Day. HBS will remain in its school building/current location for a minimum of two more years.

(AP) A private Rhode Island elementary laboratory school has announced that it will remain open and is disaffiliating from Rhode Island College. Henry Barnard School announced in a news release that the 122-year old institution plans to “establish itself as an independent school.” “This new, independent school model allows Henry Barnard’s expert teachers to continue their innovative approaches to igniting young minds,” said Scott Bromberg, president of the Henry Barnard School Parents Association. The Henry Barnard School Parents Association was essential in keeping the school open after the college announced plans to shutter the school, the Providence Journal reported.
