Living in the San Juan Islands, I have been on a Washington State ferry many times. When I was a kid, I marveled at the ferries. I loved the scenery and watching the boat dock at each island. Watching the emerald green water being churned up as the ferry docked and left was mesmerizing. These days I just ride it, often not even looking out at the beautiful view that passes by, and I certainly don’t go out and watch it dock. When we see something all the time, we tend to forget just how we felt about it the first time we experienced it. I will say that some mornings when I’m sitting on a ferry, I look out the window as the islands pass by and I really understand why I live in this beautiful part of the world. It is always good to reflect on things that we once appreciated, no matter how long it’s been around.
