Rutgers spent a record $114.2 million to fund its athletics program during the most recent academic year, an analysis of the university’s financial records reveals.
NJ Advance Media obtained the Fiscal Year 2020 ledger that Rutgers submits annually to the NCAA through an Open Public Records Act request. FY2020 spans July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020, which essentially covers the 2019-20 academic year.
One year after spending a record $103.2 million, Rutgers smashed that total as a result of expenditures that included $20.8 million in coaching salaries, $21.9 million in administrative-staff salaries, $15.3 million in scholarship aid, $11.4 million in athletics-facilities debt, and $3.2 million in severance payments.
