HEY LITTLE SISSTAR, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

RSN927 HEY LITTLE SISSTAR, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? April 27, 2021 9:00 am By Matt Stewart, Racing Editor Even if Morphettville, she will always linger in the shadow of Sunlight, according to trainer Tony McEvoy. “It’s a very long shadow.” Sunlight won the Newmarket Handicap but ran a shocker after drawing wide in the 2020 TAB Classic. Starting $3.20 favourite, Barend Vorster rode to a stable plan by scouting wide but Sunlight refused to try, finishing 16th. She was retired after finishing down the track in The Goodwood at her next start. Sunlight holds off Zousain to win the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes! Morphettville Australasian Oaks Robert TAB Classic Sangster Stakes

South Australia will command a fair slice of racing’s national spotlight when the prestigious Adelaide Racing Carnival (May 1-15) kicks off this Saturday with two Group 1 races. The TAB Classic for fillies and mares over 1200m (Robert Sangster Stakes) and Australasian Oaks for three-year-old fillies, both worth $502,250, have attracted strong nominations from local and interstate stables. Among the likely Oaks’ runners is the Scott Brunton-trained rising star Hela, unbeaten from its seven starts, since debuting in October last year Hela has won all races in Tasmania, most recently winning a handicap over 1600m on April 14. The daughter of Night of Thunder faces a big step up in class if she takes her place in the field but trainer Brunton said after Hela’s recent win it was all systems go. “She did what I expected her to do (last Sunday) and now we have to keep her ticking over and hope we can get her to South Australia safe and sound,’’ he said.

Great Eastern Steeplechase: Spying On You winds back the clock for second triumph

Emotions flowed for trainer, jockey and many supporters when the South Australian-trained Spying On You won his second Great Eastern Steeplechase, accounting for top-weight and favourite Zed Em in an absorbing race at Oakbank on Saturday. Sitting off the pace when stablemate Pentelligentsia and Zed Em engaged in an early battle with both swapping the lead, the Grant Young-trained jumper came with a well-timed run with Tommy Ryan on board to beat Zed Em by 3.5 lengths with Pentelligentsia just over eight lengths away in third. Spying On You ($5) won the big race in 2017 and was having his fifth start in the Great Eastern.
