Bard Summerscape is returning to live performance with a wide-ranging and adventurous lineup this summer. Staged for limited in-person audiences, the 2021 season presents the 31st Bard Music Festival, Nadia Boulanger and Her World, which pays tribute to one of the most important female figures in classical music history; the first fully staged American production of King Arthur (Le roi Arthus), the only opera by Boulanger s compatriot and near-contemporary Ernest Chausson; the world premiere of I was waiting for the echo of a better day, a major new dance commission from Bard s Fisher Center Choreographer-in-Residence Pam Tanowitz and Sphinx Medal of Excellence-winning composer Jessie Mon

The Blues Brothers, set to open Mary 27 with performances every Friday and Saturday evening through June 26 at Radial Park at Halletts Point in Queens. The cinemersive experience will feature live performers and musicians performing in sync with an outdoor, drive-in screening of the 1980 film.

This February, the Bard Music Festival presents A Program of French Piano Music, Inspired by the World of Nadia Boulanger, a recital of French music performed by pianists Danny Driver and Piers Lane recorded at The Menuhin Hall, Sussex, England in fall 2020. Commissioned by the Bard Music Festival, the concert features works by César Franck, Lili Boulanger, Gabriel Fauré, and Camille Saint-Saëns. The program includes a talk by renowned scholars Byron Adams and Kimberly Francis introducing the work of these four composers and of the person who connects them, Nadia Boulanger.
