Siloam Mission in Winnipeg saw an increased demand for its shelter and pop-up warming centre over the mid-January weekend, thanks to a cold bout that hit Manitoba.
The province has earmarked $350,000 for a 24-hour warming shelter. The new warming shelter was supposed to open soon but the selected location was met with pushback from business owners and ultimately turned down by the city's planning commission on Nov. 1.
Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer officially launched Wednesday and is already prepping for a busy season for its hamper program, hoping it can meet the growing needs of the community.
