Beverly Jean (Lawrence) Huckins, 90 of Pierre, SD passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 2, 2021. Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00pm, Monday, May 10, 2021 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, followed by a Funeral Service beginning at 3:00pm. Per church policy, masks will be required for service attendance. Interment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota. Memorials can be offered in her name to the Pierre Youth Orchestra or the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Pierre.
Beverly was born to Amida and Roy Lawrence on September 3, 1930, in Dupree, South Dakota. She was the middle child of 3. In 1951, Beverly married Robert Lyle Huckins and together they created a loving home and raised 7 children. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and history.

CAMDEN The Stewardship Education Alliance (S.E.A.) has tapped three new members to the local nonprofit’s Board of Directors. The announcement comes from S.E.A. president and Board chairman, Barbara Lawrence.
The year-old nonprofit works to increase community awareness of the importance of stewardship in protecting the Midcoast’s water resources and fragile watersheds. With S.E.A. support, students, teachers and communities are benefitting from grants for special watershed-related projects, activities and professional development.

The U.S. moved a step closer Friday to having another vaccine in its coronavirus arsenal, after an advisory panel to the Food and Drug Administration unanimously endorsed Johnson & Johnson’s one-dose COVID vaccine.
Formal authorization for the vaccine could come in the next few days. The one-dose vaccine would become the third coronavirus inoculation approved by the FDA after the two-dose vaccines manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna.
Members of the Congressional Black Caucus went on television Friday to encourage African Americans to receive the COVID-19 inoculations.
