Is a memoir and a history book. In the book you talk about your personal journey and you are very candid about your life, and you also cover new insights as a historian to the life and legacy of dr. Martin luther king, jr. What prompted you to write the book this way . Guest well, i wanted to write something for the anniversary and this is 50 years of my life and kings legacy and my life coincides with my coming of age, so part of it was to do those two tasks. I felt that my life had been connected to the king legacy, and i felt there was something about my life that needed to be told to understand how king impacted me and how i got involved in this amazing journey of editing team newspapers. Host its an excellent reading and you and buy your of the same generation, and why too was coming of age in the 60s. The book i might say was bittersweet to me because i knew dr. King, i knew him the last two years of his life and i am bitter because of the way that he was taken from us because of
It is 9 00 p. M. Here at Longwood University at farmville, virginia. And the running mates are ready to roll. Good evening, im megyn kelly. Three minutes away from the one and only Vice President ial debate of 2016. Indiana governor, mike pence, and virginia senator, tim kaine, will face off with 90 minutes without any breaks. Both men hoping to use that time to boost their partys ticket while reintroducing themselves to the American People. If you look at the recent polls for about a third of the country, this is the very first introduction. They dont know who these guys are. Thats exactly right. And a lot of the talk, megyn, before this debate starts, is
whether this is going to be fiery. Whether this is going to be policydriven. And they will have to defend the top of the ticket. What has been said and what has been done. The civil war, essentially came to an end just north of this campus. Well see what this battle looks like tonight on stage. If you ask the rnc, it has already been
Women, whether its whatever. And young trumps main argument for himself is you suck too . Part of the problem we have, theres these false equivalencies you guys do. Even on the tax stuff, youre saying, well, Hillary Clinton took some deductions, too. Hillary clinton pays 30 of her income in income taxes. Why is that enough . Trump pays zero. If she wants 65 , she wants 65 on the estate tax or she doesnt want estate tax. This is the point about false equivalency. You guys last night were pointing out, hillary took the same deduction, she took 3,000, that was it. Trump took 900 million. Its the principle of it we are just a few seconds away from the start of this Vice President ial debate. Lets go back to wolf. Wolf . Yeah, were here inside, were waiting, only a couple of moments away. Jake, the stakes clearly are enormous tonight. How do you see them . Well, i mean, kaine and pence are both nice and moderate seeming guys. Theyre both pleasant. Its going to be like two guys, two dads fro
Thats a sharp contrast with donald trump. Donald trump always puts himself first. He built a Business Career in the words of one of his own Campaign Staffers off the backs of the little guy. And as a candidate, he started his campaign with a speech where he called mexicans rapist and criminals, and he has pursued the discredited and really outrageous lie that president obama wasnt born in the United States. It is so painful to suggest that we go back to think about these days where an africanamerican could not be a citizen of the United States. And i cant imagine how governor pence can defend the insultdriven, selfish me for donald trump. Governor pence, let me ask you. You have said donald trump is quote, thoughtful, compassionate and steady. Yet 67 of voters feel he is a risky choice. And 625 feel he does not have the right kind of temperament to be president. Why do so Many Americans think mr. Trump is simply too erratic . Well, let me say first and foremost that senator, you and Hi
Skill of your candidate. Say like oh, my guy has never done this before and the other guy, hes really, really good. You havent seen them gaming expectations between the two of them. And we just heard about carol pence being on the debate time in high school and very confident in this. We havent seen those games and i think the expectations are very high. Someone pointed out kaine has been down, no scheduled events for what, five days . These are both preparers, both students and serious guys . Right, and the washington lawyer you know is out there playing the opposite number to him. Playing pence to him. So he will be very prepared. I do think the question is what will be the advantage of each candidate. I think its to go after Hillary Clinton not to go of the trump. He will score, on the other hand, i think that kaine is not comfortable going after Hillary Clinton trump, so i think hes going to play defense. I expect the offense is going to come from pence tonight and surprise everybo
