Barbara Domer, 62, and a 33-year resident of Valparaiso surpassed Drew Wenger, 33, a lifetime resident of Valparaiso, to win the Democratic ticket for Valparaiso City Council District 3. She will compete against Republican Harris D. Peterson, who was uncontested for his party, in the November election.
Voters across Northwest Indiana will have the opportunity to decide who will represent them at the local level on Tuesday as numerous cities and towns will be voting for candidates for council, clerk-treasurer and mayor.
With only town and city elections on the ballot early voting turnout was slow in Porter County Monday. Voters are choosing party candidates for contested primary races in Chesterton, Kouts, Portage, Porter and Valparaiso this year.
