Legislative amendments long overdue - BEC

Employers in Barbados have embraced the Government’s new Safety and Health at Work Regulations.    Director of the Barbados Employers’ Confederation (BEC) Sheena Mayers-Granville said on Wednesday that the Safety and Health at Work (Amendment) Bill which was debated in the House of Assembly on Tuesday was something the business sector had been requesting for some time now.“We have no concerns with the amendment. We have been asking for regulations since the Act was passed and then years later proclaimed. So in our numerous conversations, we have asked for regulations over the years. We are very happy to see some progress toward those regulations coming on stream,” Mayers-Granville told Barbados TODAY.

General secretary of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) Richard Green is maintaining the union’s calls for increased wages for public workers.
