UFC Fight Night 113’s Leslie Smith was supposed to fight an established, though somewhat inexperienced opponent in Lina Länsberg, who would have provided her with a stylistic match-up that could make for a good fight and test her in key areas. The fight would’ve allowed Smith to show that improvements she had made were not a matter of opponent, but proof of technical development and self-awareness. Now, though, Smith will face Amanda Lemos, an unknown but undefeated youngster making her Octagon debut and trying to make her name off of the established and well-regarded Smith. Upon Further Review: Sijara Eubanks vs. Lauren Murphy
It’s been a busy few weeks in mixed martial arts, especially in the world of women’s MMA. Among the many bouts that have taken place these last few weeks, we’ve seen Holly Holm return to title contention, Claudia Gadelha eke past Carla Esparza and an entire Deep Jewels event that included Reina Miura in featherweight action. The month kicked off with a very important UFC fight between two of the company’s flyweights, Sijara Eubanks and Lauren Murphy.

The UFC rounds off the calendar year with a loaded card for UFC on ESPN+ 42. Among the long list of fights at the show, the showdown between Gillian Robertson and Taila Santos could prove to be something of a hidden gem. The women’s flyweight fight features an interesting contrast of styles, with a predominant striker in Santos pitted against Robertson, a tenacious grappler. Moreover, the victor in this contest will likely soon find themselves at the upper end of the shallow women’s flyweight division.
Robertson appeared on
The Ultimate Fighter 26 and was stopped in her quarterfinal bout by Barb Honchak. She was given a chance on the finale card, where she submitted fellow contestant Emily Whitmire in the first round. Robertson continued this form by upsetting Britain’s Molly McCann in her hometown with a second-round tap at UFC Fight Night 130 in Liverpool in 2018. Despite suffering losses to Mayra Bueno Silva and Maycee Barber through her next six appearances with the comp
