May 19, 2021 AN IMAM or Islamic worship leader was gunned down by two unidentified assailants in Barangay Pajac, Lapu-Lapu City on Tuesday night, May 18, 2021.
Police identified him as Cairoding Ampaso Palman, 43, a resident of Sitio St. Michael in Barangay Pajac.
Police Col. Arnel Banzon, director of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO), said they are looking into several angles, including if Palman may have recently been in a conflict with someone he knew.
Banzon told reporters that at 8:10 p.m. of May 14, 2021, Palman was driving his tricycle that was carrying an liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank when two men approached and shot him several times.
THE increasing new cases of Covid-19 in Lapu-Lapu City is not a cause for alarm.
Grace Mary Chan Carungay, city epidemiological and surveillance unit (Cesu) officer, gave this assurance on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021.“We are a bit worried because the cases increased, but the situation is still under control,” she said.
Double digits
Lapu-Lapu City’s new Covid-19 cases reached double digits on Jan. 19, 2021 with 14 infections, according to Carungay, sister of Mayor Junard Chan.
Based on the data from the Cesu, Lapu-Lapu City registered a total of 94 active cases last Jan. 19.
Barangay Basak has the most number of active cases with 22.

National Bureau of Investigation-7 Regional Director Renan Oliva said on Monday s briefing that they have arrested retired Army Col. Edwin Layese on January 12 over the death of lawyer Joey Luis Wee who was gunned down near his office,
Oliva said Layese was not the mastermind, but did the planning and execution of the killing.
“We have documentary, electronic and testimonial evidence to show that Edwin Layese was involved not just a participant but a supervisor in the killing of Wee,” Oliva explained.
