LEGAZPI, Albay: Three people succumbed to death caused by cholera and severe diarrhea attributed to contaminated drinking water sources, Engr. William Sabater, sanitary engineer chief of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) said. Severe diarrhea cases broke out in Barangay Manila in Rapu-Rapu Island in the past four weeks resulting in the death of a 73-year-old woman and a 32-year-old because of dehydration. They were among the 33 persons listed with severe diarrhea cases. On July 20, PHO personnel went to Manila village in Rapu-Rapu Island town to check the water sources and mode of distribution. In an inspection conducted by PHO personnel, the PHO uncovered that the residents are just getting drinking water from improvised springs and undeveloped sources on the island. The provincial government of Albay through the PHO delivered 240 pieces of jerry cans of drinking water to Barangay Manila on July 22.
