DAVAO CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Zamboanga del Norte 2nd District Engineering Office on Tuesday has completed the widening of the bridge in Sindangan-Liloy Road in Salug, Zamboanga del Norte, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar said.

In a statement on Tuesday, Villar said “the widening of Canawan Bridge in Barangay Canawan, Salug from two (2) lanes to four (4) lanes is expected to ease congestion of vehicles and improve the delivery of goods and services for the locals in the area.”
The DPWH said the 40.33-meter Canawan Bridge has a total budget allocation of P43.21 million funded under 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA). It also included slope protection work “to avoid or minimize erosion or soil disturbance.”

Widening works were implemented on Canawan Bridge along Sindangan-Liloy Road in Barangay Canawan in Salug town, Villar said.
The now four-lane bridge is expected to ease congestion and improve the delivery of goods and services for the locals in the area.
The widening of the 40.33-meter bridge was implemented under a P43.21-million budget allocation under the 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Aside from the widening works, the bridge project also involved the construction of a slope protection to avoid or minimize erosion or soil disturbance.
Twelve solar-powered lamp posts were also installed on the sides of the bridge to improve motorists’ safety at night time.
