Adriano) LAOAG CITY - The province of Ilocos Norte will deploy barangay biosecurity officers (BBOs) to its 559 villages to further strengthen its efforts to contain African swine fever (ASF). In an interview Monday, provincial veterinarian Dr. Loida Valenzuela said the BBOs shall ensure the proper implementation of biosecurity measures against ASF in the barangay level. "The BBOs shall serve as front-liners of the Bantay ASF program which may include community or village-based animal technicians, barangay animal health workers, barangay livestock aide, or any person assigned by the municipality or city at the barangay," she added. They will likewise be tasked to monitor and report weekly any possible threat regarding the ASF to the municipal and provincial governments. TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, May 4 To intensify the knowledge of the African Swine Fever (ASF), the Department of Agriculture (DA) - Caraga through the Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section (RAFIS) conducted the ASF Information Caravan in the two provinces of the region, to include Surigao del Sur recently.
The first leg of the Caravan was conducted last March 23-25 in six municipalities in the province of Agusan del Sur namely La Paz, Veruela, Trento, Bunawan, Rosario, and San Francisco. The second leg was conducted on April 21-23, in five municipalities and one city in the province of Surigao del Sur namely Tandag City, Municipalities of Tago, Carmen, Madrid, Carrascal, and Cantilan.
