Two corrections officers stabbed by inmate at Baraga Correctional Facility

ABC 10/CW5 BARAGA COUNTY Two corrections officers are on the mend after a stabbing incident Wednesday afternoon. As reported by the Keweenaw Report, an inmate at the Baraga Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison, stabbed a guard in the neck from behind. That officer was able to react and help subdue the prisoner even after sustaining the injury. Another officer came to offer assistance and was subsequently hurt. After the stabbing, the facility segregated the prisoners and reestablished order without further problems. Michigan Department of Corrections Spokesman Chris Gautz says both of the officers were released from the hospital by yesterday evening.

Inmate attacks, injures officers at Baraga prison

BARAGA, MI Two corrections officers were injured when a maximum-security prisoner attacked them at the Baraga Correctional Facility Wednesday. Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman Chris Gautz says just before noon the prisoner assaulted the officer from behind with a weapon, causing serious injury to his neck. Despite his injuries the CO was able to restrain the prisoner with the help of another officer, who was also injured. All prisoners in the facility were placed in segregation. The two officers were taken to the hospital, treated and released Wednesday evening. The Michigan State Police and MDOC continue to investigate the incident.
