KETCHIKAN (KDN) â The crane located at the Bar Harbor South drive-down float currently is inoperable due to the failure of the electronic safety limiting system, and is under consideration for repair, according to Acting Port and Harbors Director Mark Hilson.
In its regular meeting Thursday, the Ketchikan City Council will consider approval of authorizing and exempting the procurements of the parts and labor required for the repair from the competitive bidding and written quotation requirements, as often is allowed when a repair or parts must be acquired from a specific company.
The crane was purchased new from North Pacific Crane and installed in 1999, according to a memo attached to the meeting agenda and written by Hilson. The crane was relocated in 2014 to its current location as part of the drive-down float project.
