More Ky hospitals got As on safety-grade report; most still get Cs

Whitesburg ARH Hospital, which got a C, shows detail for infection issues and tabs for other issues. More Kentucky hospitals than the last time got a grade of A on a nonprofit group s rating of patient safety in hospitals, but for the fifth grading period in a row, most of the 45 Kentucky hospitals got Cs.     The Leapfrog Group, based in Washington, D.C., rates more than 2,600 hospitals. Most of Kentucky s 126 hospitals were not rated, but those that are have a majority of the hospital beds in the state.   The group does not grade small hospitals with critical access status because they don t have to report quality measures to the federal government, nor does it grade specialty hospitals, government hospitals, or hospitals for which there aren t enough publicly reported data.

CMC to get COVID vaccines for health care workers

It is not yet known when the facility will receive those vaccines. CMC Chief Nursing Officer Douglas James said that the medical center has been working closely with the Kentucky Department of Public Health, Kentucky Hospital Association and regional coalition partners in the process to get vaccines for some time. “Much of the information that we have been getting has been a little generic in nature, where they tell you that ‘We’re expecting this to happen’ or ‘We anticipate this happening on this date’ or whatever, but nothing specific,” he said. “We had a call earlier this week where they gave us a little more specifics on it. What it looks like at this point — unless something changes — is that Caldwell Medical Center will be receiving vaccine next week.”

Local doctor encourages community to prepare for COVID-19 vaccine

This week, individuals across the state celebrated the delivery of COVID-19 vaccinations to hospitals across the commonwealth. As the vaccine is made available, local healthcare providers such as Dr. John Jones, of the Primary Care Centers of Eastern Kentucky, are encouraging the community to follow guidelines and to prepare to get the vaccine once it is available. In total, the state expects at least 38,000 Pfizer doses and 109,000 Moderna doses this month. Beshear said he expects more Pfizer allocations to be announced at a later date, possibly before the end of the month. Beshear said he expects Kentucky will receive approximately 38,000 Pfizer doses the week of Dec. 13-19; 76,000 Moderna doses the week of Dec. 20-26; and more than 33,000 Moderna doses from Dec. 27-31. These numbers are the state’s best estimate at this time based on available information from the federal government, and are subject to change.
