Lots of options to make a COVID vaccination appointment

Doctor’s office or drive-thru vaccination clinic? The number of places to receive a COVID-19 vaccination in Gila County have increased, along with confusion over where to go and who to call — and how to get through to the call center. Michael O’Driscoll, director of Gila County’s Health and Emergency Management Department, along with Josh Beck, the lead on the county’s response to the pandemic, explained the various phone numbers, emails, websites and physical locations to sign up for a vaccine. They explained why it’s hard to get through to the call center. Hint — it has something to do with our large neighbor next door, Maricopa County.

Jared Polis announced during a news conference Tuesday.  Polis said he was told earlier in the day on a call with the White House that Colorado would receive 27,000 additional doses over the next three weeks, or approximately 9,000 per week. He also announced a new federal program in which community health clinics can receive doses directly from the federal government.

Vaccine expanded to 65+ Gila County residents

Outpacing many Arizona counties, Gila County health officials announced Friday that they were expanding COVID vaccination efforts to include those residents 65+. There are currently three facilities providing the vaccine to residents, Banner Health Clinic Payson, Dr. Ali Askari’s office and Ponderosa Family Care. “Thanks to the dedicated hard work from: Command Solutions 4, Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center, Banner Health Clinic Payson, Mogollon Health Alliance and Kenny Evans, Ponderosa Family Care, Genoa Pharmacy, Hope Family Care, Arizona National Guard, and all of the enthusiastic community volunteers and CERT members, Gila County is once again one of the top performing counties in vaccinating our population. Due to all the hard work on behalf of Gila County, we have received increased vaccination doses each week,” said Michael O’Driscoll, county health director.

Gila County vaccine supply promised to grow

Gila County residents older than 75 can sign up now for a COVID-19 vaccine by signing up for a shot through the Banner Health Clinic in northern Gila County or the Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center in southern Gila County. The health centers are taking first come, first served reservations at https://www.bannerhealth.com/staying-well/health-and-wellness/wellness/covid/gila-county-vaccine. If all the slots have been allocated, you’ll have to keep contacting the site until slots again open up. The clinic is located at 117 E. Main St., Ste A100 in Payson. All appointment times were already filled on Thursday for next week’s vaccination clinic, which means anyone eligible will need to go through the process next week until they can find an open slot. In addition to those over 75, anyone else in the 1A and 1B group can sign up, including teachers, health care workers, police and fire, funeral home workers, prison and jail workers, and longtime care residents and staff.
