Over the last five years, the gross non-performing assets (NPAs) of banks have dropped by almost 46 per cent from Rs 10.21 lakh crore in fiscal year (FY) 2017-2018 to Rs 5.55 lakh crore by March 2023.
Banks have written off Rs 10.57 lakh crore during the last five financial years, of which Rs 5.52 lakh crore was in respect of loans pertaining to large industries, the government informed the Parliament today.
SBI managing director Ashwini Kumar Tiwari said: We cannot have a system where we have a 20% growth year-on-year on MSME and retail and then an NPA (ratio) which will remain below 1% for retail
