Paddleboarder in Difficulty at Ballygally Leads to RNLI Lifeboats Callout 18th April 2021 Ballygally, a village and holiday resort on the Antrim coast where a paddleboarder got into difficulty Yesterday s strong southerly wind resulted in a spate of paddleboarding incidents involving lifeboat call outs at Larne and Bangor. Larne RNLI launched both of their lifeboats today to reports of a paddleboarder in difficulty at Ballygally, a village and holiday resort on the Antrim coast, about 3 miles north of the ferry port of Larne. Launching at the request of Belfast Coastguard, both boats were underway when the paddleboarder was reported safe back on the shore. As the boats returned to the station, Belfast Coastguard alerted them to another boarder in difficulty in Brown s Bay, a small sandy bay on the northern tip of the Islandmagee peninsula at Larne.

Lough Neagh Rescue Warns Over Dangers of Jumping Through Frozen Ice 10th January 2021 The frozen Long Pond at Antrim Castle Gardens Extremely low temperatures in Northern Ireland (it was -10.5 degrees in Katesbridge in County Down) caused many waterways and lakes and even Bangor Harbour on Belfast Lough to ice over. Lough Neagh Rescue has reported that it received many calls and messages from members of the public about walking on the Long Ponds in Antrim Castle Gardens in Antrim town. There were also reports of swimmers jumping into Lough Neagh through frozen ice. Lough Neagh Rescue say Whilst we can t tell anyone what to do, we would encourage our followers to keep safe and follow current safety guidelines. It might look like fun and you might think it s safe to walk or swim under the ice, but the consequences of your actions could be severe and life-threatening .

Stand Up Paddleboard Santas in Bangor Harbour 14th December 2020 SUPPing Santas in Bangor Harbour Last week Jersey Coastguard was asked to go to the aid of a man dressed in red who reported that he had fallen out of his sleigh during a routine test flight and was stranded on a sandbank. Both RNLI St Helier Lifeboats were launched to assist the intriguing gentleman who was recovered safe and well. It s good to know that there are people dressed in red suits who would have filled the gap had he not been rescued and 80 of these were seen yesterday braving the wind and driving rain in Bangor Harbour on Belfast Lough. In bubbles of up to 15 Santas, they took to the water in aid of the RNLI.
