Deal signed to build 100MW solar plant in Sonagazi

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said that Bangladesh is committed to increasing its share of renewable energy in power generation in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).
He made the remarks on Thursday while addressing virtually a function marking the signing of a contract between the state-owned Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh Limited (EGCB) and the Japanese firm Marubeni Corporation for Implementing a 100 MW solar power plant at Sonagazi in Fenni.
As per the memorandum of understanding (MoU), the PGCB and Marubeni will set up the plant with each having 50 percent equity share in the project.

BFSA to perform lead role to ensure food safety: Food Minister

DHAKA, Feb 3, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) will perform lead role to ensure the food safety for the people as the government expressed ‘zero’ tolerance on food adulteration.
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder today said this while addressing as the chief guest attending a technical assistance projecting signing ceremony between the national food safety regulatory agency and Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) at city’s Expatriates’ Welfare Bhaban here.
BFSA Chairman M Abdul Kaiyum Sarker and JICA representative Yuho Hayakawa signed the record of discussion on behalf of their respective organization.
Japanese film directorâs documentary on Bangabandhu screened

DHAKA, Jan 27, 2021 (BSS) â A rare documentary made on the life of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, made by imminent Japanese film director Nagisa Oshima just after the independence of Bangladesh, was screened at foreign service academy here today.
Foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, state minister for foreign affairs Md. Shariar Alam, foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen, Chief Coordinator of the National Implementation Committee of Mujib Barsha Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury and Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Naoki Ito were present on the occasion.
Foreign ministry organised the event to screen the documentary titled âBengal no Chichi Lama (The Father of Bangladesh)â in Japanese language with English subtitled as part of celebrating Mujib Barsha, marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu.

Japan is determined to host the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021 as it will be dream come true for their people, said Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Naoki Ito on Wednesday.
The Olympic Games was scheduled to be held in 2020 but was postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Olympic Games organisers recently gave out the indication of hosting the Olympic on time in 2021 as they announced that the torch relay for the Tokyo Olympic Games will begin on March 25, 2021, and travel almost along the same route set before the Games which was postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic.
