Residents living near the Balewadi Main Road are fuming over the recent cutting down of six full grown
trees lining the
footpath that were not only hacked without any prior intimation, but officials seem to be completely clueless over the
development.
This, according to them, puts the
environment at a hazard and takes away from the oxygen levels and the much-needed shade in the summer months.
They have slammed the authorities of the
Smart City Project, run jointly by the state and the Centre, and demanded an immediate enquiry.

Trees Maharashtra’
Following a Pune Mirror story impact, many citizen groups and several organisations working in the field of conservation of environment have come forward and started a campaign called ‘Mission Save Trees Maharashtra’.
Mirror had reported on Friday (March 12), as how timber contractors appointed by Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (
PCMC) chopped off over 50 fully grown trees right from the roots when the permission was only given to trim few branches that are covering streetlights. The act was further caught by one of the citizen activist members of the smart city project.
