Unrealistic shelter capacities in case of nuke accident emerge in east Japan pref. The Mainichi
TOKYO As part of an extended area evacuation plan in case of a nuclear power plant accident, two facilities in the eastern Japan prefecture of Ibaraki with unrealistic capacities have been designated as evacuation shelters, and the shortage could expand.
The plan was created in case of an accident at the Japan Atomic Power Company s Tokai No. 2 Power Station in the village of Tokai in Ibaraki Prefecture, and a public library and a multi-purpose culture center with a music hall with many seats fixed to the floor have been designated as shelters. At these two facilities in two separate cities alone, a Mainichi Shimbun study shows that the capacities were overestimated by a total of about 3,500.
