AP govt backs bandh against Vizag Steel privatisation
March 04, 2021 The YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government has expressed solidarity with the Andhra Pradesh bandh on March 5 to protest against the Union government’s decision to privatise Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP).
State Minister for Information and Public Relations Perni Venkataramaiah said the State government is against the privatisation of the CPSU and the Chief Minister had already written a letter to the Centre suggesting alternatives to revive the plant.
He said the State public transport services will be stalled until 1 pm, and the RTC staff will be wearing black badges and resume their duties after 1 pm.
NEW DELHI: In a bid to reach out to the global community, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) - the umbrella body of farm unions - on Thursday said it will organise a webinar on the issues behind their opposition to the three farm laws.
The farmers body also extended its support to the ‘Bharat Bandh’ called by transport and trade unions on Friday.
It appealed to all farmers in the country to support “all the Bharat Bandh protestors peacefully and make the Bandh a success”.
Farmers have been sitting at Delhi s borders since November 2020 protesting the three farm laws passed by the government. Eleven rounds of talks have been held between farmer representatives and the government without any breakthrough.
Traders body CAIT on Thursday said all commercial markets across the country will remain closed on February 26 in view of its Bharat Bandh call demanding a review of the provisions of the goods and services tax (GST) regime. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said dharnas (protests) will be held nationwide in 1,500 places demanding the Centre, state governments and the GST Council to keep in abeyance the draconian provisions of GST. It also called for a review of the GST system and its tax slabs to simplify and rationalise it for easier compliance by traders. Addressing a press conference, CAIT Secretary-General Praveen Khandelwal said it is also talking to the government on this issue.

Most of the business establishments in southern Gujarat’s Valsad town on Wednesday remained shut in response to a bandh called by various groups to protest the terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims.
Three persons from Valsad were among the seven pilgrims killed in the terror attack in Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday evening.
