Self-portraits by Vincent van Gogh will be on display in London next year, in what organizers claim will be the first exhibition dedicated to the Dutch post-Impressionist artist’s portrayals of himself.
The Courtauld Gallery will host the exhibition beginning in February, with works ranging from “Self-Portrait with a Dark Felt Hat,” painted in 1886 in Paris, to “Self-Portrait with a Palette,” painted in a hospital in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, southern France, in September 1889.
The following year, he died. The well-known “Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear,” which van Gogh painted in 1889 after cutting off most of his ear, will be on display alongside other paintings as part of The Courtauld collection.
