KP CM Mahmood Khan performs groundbreaking of Makh Banda Dam

KARAK: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan here on Tuesday performed the groundbreaking of Makh Banda Dam project that would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs814 million in three years. On completion, the dam will help bring 725 acres of land under cultivation.
The chief minister also performed the groundbreaking of the rehabilitation of 38-kilometer long road from Banda Daud Shah to Gurguri that would be completed in two years at an estimated cost of Rs587 million.
Addressing public gatherings at Makh Banda and Banda Daud Shah, the chief minister announced a package of Rs2 billion for the gasification of Karak. He said that the oil and gas royalty funds were the right of the people of Karak and other oil-producing districts, adding the government launched Karak Area Development Project to ensure that the royalty funds were spent on the development of Karak.

PESHAWAR: A Peshawar High Court bench on Thursday summoned the federal petroleum secretary and Federal Investigation Agency regional director over a petition of Karak residents seeking cancellation of the licence of an international oil and gas exploration company over the alleged theft of crude oil.
Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan and Justice Syed Arshad Ali fixed Feb 2 for the next hearing into the joint petition of Mujahid Islam and 49 other residents of Banda Daud Shah tehsil.
The bench directed the petroleum secretary and FIA director to appear before it to respond to the claims made by petitioners.
KARAK: The workers of ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf have criticised their party’s MNA Shahid Khan Khattak for what they call ignoring the backward areas of the district.
The allegations were levelled against the lawmaker in a meeting of PTI workers held here on Thursday with Malik Ishaq in the chair. The meeting was attended by a large number of PTI workers.
The participants of the meeting alleged that the MNA was interested in the uplift of the already developed areas of the district. They alleged that the lawmaker was following the advice of few influential individuals of the party and was ignoring the ideological workers.

KARAK: The police on Thursday arrested 31 people, including a local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), for attacking and burning the shrine of a Hindu saint in Teri area of Karak district the previous day.
Enraged protesters had attacked and set on fire the Samadhi (shrine) of Shri Paramhans Jee Maharaj on Wednesday as they objected to its expansion.
The police sources said Rehmat Salam Khattak, a leader of Maulana Fazlur Rehman-headed JUI-F, was arrested by the police from his house in Chokara area of Takht-i-Nusrati Tehsil as he had allegedly participated in a meeting before the attack on the shrine. Khattak had joined the JUI-F after quitting the PML-N and unsuccessfully contesting election on its ticket.

KARAK: Police arrested 31 people including district leaders of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) here on Thursday for vandalising and demolishing the shrine of a Hindu saint in Teri area of the district.
Police officials told Dawn that JUI-F senior leader Rehmat Salam Khattak was also among the arrested persons. He was arrested from his residence in Chokara area of Takht-i-Nusrati tehsil. He served as provincial general secretary of PML-N before joining JUI-F.
Officials said that they raided the houses of people, who were involved in the attack on the shrine. However, several of them, who took part in damaging the shrine, went underground to avoid arrest, they added.
