Sugar is not available in open market at official rates while the consumers are purchasing sugar in Ramazan bazaars staying in long queues. The prices are only controlled in Ramazan bazaars where subsidised sugar is sold at lower than the market rates. Sugar is not available in markets at official rates of Rs85 per kilogram. Shopkeepers are selling sugar to their regular customers at Rs100 per kilogram. Other customers are unable to buy sugar even at Rs100 per kilogram. In some areas shopkeepers have displayed placards stating sugar is not available.

Apps fail to control overcharging on perishable items Lahore March 1, 2021 LAHORE:The ministers, elected representatives and bureaucracy in the Punjab are submitting the good performance report on inflation and prices of essential items to the higher offices of the government but on ground they have left the buyers at the mercy of the overcharging, price list violation and sale of the substandard items at official rates. The industries minister used to issue orders to control overcharging and taking stern action against the officials who are ignoring his orders while practically no improvement was witnessed. Now another wave of the price hike, artificial inflation is around the corner in the forthcoming holy month of Ramazan as the stockiest already started hoarding the items which consumption increases this month. According to a handout, the Punjab government continued crackdown on profiteering and hoarding across the province and during last two months arrested 906 profiteers

Fruits, vegetables prices stay high in Sunday bazaar Lahore February 15, 2021 LAHORE : Police and Civil Defence Departments did not deploy security personnel at the entry points of Shadman Sunday Bazaar, causing great inconvenience for the visitors. The bazaar administration told The News that it had written a letter to the departments for the security but they neither deployed their officials, nor gave response to the letter. Prices of vegetables and fruits stayed high in the bazaar. Overcharging and selling things above the official rates continued in the absence of any check and balance of the authorities concerned. The price of chicken meat, for live bird, increased by Rs5, fixed at Rs209 per kg while it was sold at Rs210 to 240 per kg and chicken meat by Rs7 per kg, fixed at Rs303 per kg, and sold Rs320 to 380 per kg.
