Was hit by a car on i95. We have learned that he has been on the force for about three years and was just doing a traffic stop when he was hit. Now, this happened just before 4 00 on 95 south near the exit for route 32 in jessup. Right now, there is one lane getting by but the backups are almost all the way back to the baltimore beltway. Thats about 13 miles away. Theres also Traffic Building on the northbound side and on 295, as drivers try to take some alternate routes to avoid that area. The heat index will be right around 105 for many of us. And actually in the immediate beltway region we could see heat index values above 105 as we head into the afternoon. Hottest night of the year. Pepco confirmed pour outages and the heat and humidity could be factors. Our Garrett Haake has been on the story all evening talked with affected residents and businesses. Hes live in northeast. Garrett . Reporter debra, thankfully the power is finally back on here in northeast for all but a few dozen people who might still be without it. For a while tonight, though, there were more than 4,000 people across the district without electricity. Pepco says the first outage tonight in northwest was not caused by the heat, but regardless of what caused it all these people had to deal with the high temperatures. At andre jones home in upper northwest the power went off just like that. The next thing we know, bam. You know, so i ran downstairs. I thought maybe it was a breaker.
